As our days turn warmer I encourage everyone to get out and enjoy our warmer weather and the various outdoor events across our community.

I hope you are able to attend a Memorial Day event to remember those veterans who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. I am also inviting you to attend my upcoming Veterans’ Forum and certainly strongly encourage you to vote in the upcoming 13 June primary. Finally, I am highlighting a recent local event that I always enjoy attending and forwarding a warning about a phishing scam targeting veterans.

I will be hosting a free Veterans’ Forum at the King’s Corner Banquet room on May 31, 2017 from 5-7 p.m.. Delegates Lee Ware, Roxann Robinson, Manoli Loupassi, Riley Ingram, and Senators Amanda Chase and Glen Sturtevant are co-hosts for the event.

There have been many changes within DVS and the Veteran Services Foundation that enhance the care that the Commonwealth provides for veterans. I will highlight these changes at this forum and it should be an excellent opportunity to learn how they impact you. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions and recommend new initiatives to help our veterans.

Republican candidate for Governor Ed Gillespie and John Adams, Republican nominee for Attorney General, will also be special guests at this forum. There will be a photo opportunity session with Delegate Cox and Ed Gillespie before the event. If you would like your picture taken, please arrive by 4:45 p.m..

Please register before May 25, 2017. Tickets are required as seating is limited.

More invitation and a link to online registration can be accessed here.

First Responders Recognition

I was honored to be asked to speak at the 9th Annual American Legion Post 284 Law & Order night. Unfortunately, I could not attend this year’s event. Annually this event is sponsored by the Post’s Sons of The American Legion Squadron and their American Legion Riders chapter. The area Firefighter/Paramedic (Johnny Crenshaw), Police Officer (Robert Simmons), Trooper (John Wright), Communications/Dispatcher (Denise Chandler), and Deputy (Larry Mallory) of the year are recognized and honored at this dinner. I am pleased to publicly recognize these outstanding first responders and thank them for their exemplary service to the citizens of Colonial Heights and the surrounding community.

Veteran Choice Program (VCP) Impostor

The Department of Veterans Affairs is warning of a phishing scam targeting veterans. An unkown party has set up a phone line to mimic the VCP phone line. This imposter phone line may be intended to reach Veterans who inadvertently dial the VCP number incorrectly.

The correct number for the VCP program is 1-866-606-8198. This line is for Veterans to check their eligibility for the VCP and ask questions about the program. If you are unsure if you have reached the correct phone line, hang up and dial 1-866-606-8198 again. The phone line will state the caller has reach the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

The number of the phishing scam is very similar, so please check carefully. You know you have reached the wrong VCP phone line if you are offered a $100 rebate if you provide a credit card.
